A-CBT Late Renewal and Reinstatement Policy

Effective for the 2026 Renewal Cycle

This Late Renewal Policy ("Policy") applies to www.academyofcbt.org, and The Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy ("Company") and governs data collection and usage. 


Late Renewal Period


Credential holders who do not successfully complete renewal by January 1, 2026 will be considered lapsed. A-CBT may, at its discretion, offer a limited late renewal period following the renewal deadline.


During the late renewal period:

  • Certification status remains inactive
  • A-CBT credentials may not be represented or used
  • Certificates remain removed
  • Access to certification benefits is suspended


Late Renewal Fee


Credential holders who renew during the late renewal period will be required to pay:

  • The full annual renewal rate for their credential level, plus applicable processing fees
  • A late renewal fee, if applicable, as determined by A-CBT


Late renewal fees are non-refundable.


Reinstatement After Lapse


Credential holders who do not renew within the designated late renewal period will be required to apply for reinstatement.


Reinstatement is not guaranteed and may require one or more of the following, at A-CBT’s discretion:


  • Submission of a reinstatement application
  • Payment of the full renewal rate, applicable processing fees, and any reinstatement fees
  • Documentation of continued competence, training, or professional activity
  • Review and approval by the appropriate A-CBT committee or Board


Certification privileges may not be represented or used until reinstatement has been formally approved and confirmed in writing by A-CBT.


Restoration of Benefits



Upon successful late renewal or reinstatement, credential holders may regain access to:


  • Their A-CBT Certification Certificate
  • The A-CBT Listserv and professional community
  • The Find a Therapist directory
  • Where applicable, authorization to train or rate on behalf of A-CBT


Restoration of benefits is not retroactive for periods of lapsed certification.
