A-CBT Terms & Conditions

Terms & Conditions

Effective Date: September 22, 2025

Introduction

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies’ website (www.academyofcbt.org), its subdomains, services, training programs, certification offerings, and all affiliated content (collectively, the “Site”). By using or accessing the Site, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. About Us

The Academy of Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies (A‑CBT) is dedicated to advancing the field of cognitive and behavioral therapies through providing high‑quality certification programs, training services, resources, and opportunities for clinicians and other professionals. Our mission includes empowering professionals, disseminating evidence‑based CBT practices, and supporting a network of certified CBT practitioners.

2. Purpose & Scope; Medical / Therapeutic Disclaimer

The content on this Site—including articles, blog posts, information pages, FAQs, resources, training materials, certification descriptions—is provided for educational, informational, and professional development purposes only.

This content is not intended to constitute medical advice, psychological advice, counseling, or therapy. It is not a substitute for consultation with a qualified health care provider.

Using this Site (or its content) does not create a therapist‑client, patient, or medical professional relationship between you and A‑CBT or any of its staff or affiliates.

If you are experiencing a health or mental health emergency, or believe you need direct medical or psychological care, please seek help from a qualified professional in your area immediately.

3. Accuracy of Information

We strive to ensure that the information on this Site is accurate, current, and reliable. That said, we make no guarantees as to completeness or suitability of the content for your particular circumstances.

You acknowledge that the content may contain errors or omissions, and that reliance on any content is at your own risk.

4. Use of Content; Intellectual Property

All content on the Site—including text, graphics, logos, images, videos, training course materials, and certification documentation—is owned by A‑CBT or its licensors, and is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

You may view, download, or print materials for your personal, non‑commercial use only, provided you keep all copyright, trademark, and other proprietary notices intact.

You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, perform, display, or create derivative works from materials on the Site for commercial purposes without express written permission from A‑CBT.

5. Training, Certification & “Find a Therapist” Services

The certification and training programs offered by A‑CBT (including diplomate certification, trainer/consultant certification, etc.) are for professionals who meet eligibility requirements. Completion of coursework, assessments, and/or supervision (if applicable) does not assure specific results (e.g., professional success, patient outcomes).

The “Find a Therapist” service is a directory of professionals certified by A‑CBT. A‑CBT does not serve as a clinical provider through that directory; we do not deliver therapy via that service. If you choose a therapist listed, your interactions and treatment with that therapist are solely between you and the therapist.

6. External Links and Third‑Party Content

The Site may contain links to external websites, resources, or tools maintained by third parties. These are provided for your convenience.

A‑CBT is not responsible for the content, practices, or policies of those external sites, including their privacy or accuracy.

7. Payment, Refunds, Cancellation (for Training/Certification)

If the Site offers paid training or certification, payments are subject to the terms specified at the time of purchase. This may include details on pricing, payment method, deadlines, etc.

Refund and cancellation policies (if applicable) will be clearly stated for each course or program. Unless otherwise stated, fees paid are non‑refundable after a certain point (e.g. after course materials are delivered or after a deadline).

We reserve the right to cancel or modify a course or program; in such case, registrants will be notified and may be offered a refund or alternate training if applicable.

8. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, A‑CBT, its officers, directors, employees, agents, affiliates, and licensors are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of your access to, use of, or inability to use the Site or its services, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

This includes, but is not limited to, outcomes resulting from following or interpreting information on the Site, your use of training or certification, or your contact with therapists found via the directory.

9. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless A‑CBT and its personnel from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from your use of the Site, violation of these Terms, or infringement of any rights of a third party.

10. Changes to the Site or Terms

A‑CBT reserves the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site, including services, training, certification, or any features, at any time, with or without notice.

These Terms may be updated from time to time. The revised Terms will be posted here with a new “Effective Date.” Your continued use of the Site after those changes means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

These Terms shall be governed by and interpreted under the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, without regard to conflict of laws principles.

Any dispute arising from or relating to these Terms or your use of the Site shall be resolved through binding arbitration or in the courts located in Pennsylvania.

12. Severability & Waiver

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable by a court, that provision shall be severed, and the remainder of these Terms will continue to apply.

Failure by A‑CBT to enforce a right or provision under these Terms does not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.
